Vincy Aloshious and Shine Tom Chacko

Actor Shine Tom Chacko on Tuesday, 8 July, publicly apologised to co-star Vincy Aloshious during a promotional event for their upcoming film Soothravakyam.

He said his humour may have unintentionally hurt her, adding, “Not everyone sees things the same way. I failed to realise that.”

The apology comes amid speculation linking Shine to a past incident Vincy mentioned in an earlier interview, where she spoke of a lead actor who used drugs and behaved inappropriately on set, though she had not named anyone initially.

Soothravakyam, which features both actors in key roles, is set to release in theatres on 11 July.

The allegations

The controversy started after Vincy said that she would not act in films with drug using actors. She made the statement at an anti-drug awareness event.

Further clarifying, she said in the Instagram video, “Some days back at an anti-drug campaign programme, I made a statement that I will not do movies again with people I know who use drugs. I am doing this video because I wanted to make my stand clear.”

“When I had a problem with my dress, I went to correct it. He said, ‘I will also come and correct it for you.’ He said this in front of everyone. It was very difficult to go ahead with the shoot,” Vincy recounted, without naming the actor.

Further speaking on the alleged drug use, Vincy added, “When we were practising a scene, he was spitting some kind of white powder onto the table. It was very evident that he was using drug on the film set.”

Vincy however later submitted a formal complaint to the film chamber naming Shine Tom Chacko.

However, she had later decided to withdraw her complaint against co-actor Shine Tom Chacko, citing a “breach of trust”.

Vincy had requested confidentiality to Film Chamber but was disheartened when the actor’s name became public, especially after Shine was linked to a drug raid at a Kochi hotel, though no drugs were found.

Expressing her disappointment, Vincy said the issue should not affect the film or the actor’s career, emphasising the need to support talent and allow space for correction.
