Prithviraj Sukumaran’s ‘Aadujeevitham’ gets an OTT release date

Blessy-directed Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life), starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, has become a major success in the Malayalam film industry, earning over ₹150 crore worldwide. The film, based on Benyamin’s popular novel, depicts the real-life experiences of Najeeb, a Kerala expat who faced harsh conditions while working as a slave in Saudi Arabia.

Blessy’s adaptation presents his unique vision rather than a direct retelling of the book. Aadujeevitham will stream on Netflix starting 19 July, with the OTT version featuring additional scenes, extending its runtime to 3 hours and 30 minutes.

Prithviraj’s career-best performance

Aadujeevitham boasts exceptional technical quality, with music by AR Rahman and sound design by Resul Pookutty. Although Blessy’s interpretation differs from the novel, the core survival drama remains intact, enhanced by cinematic liberties that highlight Najeeb’s relationship with his wife, Sainu.

In Aadujeevitham, Prithviraj Sukumaran delivers a career-best performance, undergoing a significant physical transformation by shedding 30 kilos to portray Najeeb. The film’s shooting began in 2018 but faced delays, completing on 14 July 2023, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Highlights and cinematic excellence

Aadujeevitham’s non-linear narrative and Blessy’s direction are showcased through impactful scenes, such as Najeeb drinking water with goats, symbolising his dehumanised state.

The desert cinematography by Sathish and the night shots by Sunil KS are visually stunning. Memorable sequences include interactions with camels, vultures, and the sandstorm.

Musical and technical mastery

AR Rahman’s music, including the promotional Hope song and the Sufi-inspired, Periyone, adds depth to Aadujeevitham. The melody Omane underscores Najeeb and Sainu’s relationship, while Resul Pookutty’s sound design techniques enhance the immersive experience.

Editing by Sreekar Prasad provides sharp and effective cuts.

Blessy’s 16-year dedication to Aadujeevitham is evident in the film’s quality, earning it high praise from industry legends like Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam.

“Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life) is a masterpiece crafted by Blessy. The magnificent performance by Prithviraj and the delightful music by AR Rahman elevate it further,” read our review.
