The Grand Prix winner All We Imagine As Light has added yet another feather to its cap. The film made its way into the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) longlist.
It received three nods— Best Director, Original Screenplay and Best Film not in the English language. On Friday, 3 January, the BAFTA longlists were announced for 25 categories.
In the Best Film not in the English language category, All We Imagine As Light is named alongside Black Dog, The Count of Monte Cristo, Emilia Pérez, Flow, The Girl With the Needle, I’m Still Here, Kneecap, La Chimera, and The Seed of the Sacred Fig.
In the Best Director category, Payal Kapadia is named alongside Sean Baker for Anora, Brady Corbet for The Brutalist, Edward Berger for Conclave, Denis Villeneuve for Dune: Part Two, Jacques Audiard for Emilia Pérez, Alice Rohrwacher for La Chimera, Ellen Kuras for Lee, Nora Fingscheidt for The Outrun, and Coralie Fargeat for The Substance.
In the Original Screenplay category, All We Imagine Light is named alongside, Anora, The Apprentice, The Brutalist, Challengers, Civil War, Heretic, Kneecap, A Real Pain, and The Substance.
Payal Kapadia’s film speaks about the lives of three working-class women from Kerala, working in Mumbai. It is now available on the OTT platform Disney Plus Hotstar.

It has secured two nominations at the prestigious Golden Globes Awards— Best Motion Picture in a non-English language category and Best Director category.
Sight and Sound magazine has named All We Imagine As Light the best film of 2024. The film was named the Best International Film at the New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC).
Apart from this, All We Imagine As Light also won the Best International Feature trophy at the reputed Gotham Awards 2024.
On 20 December, Payal Kapadia received the Spirit of Cinema Award from the Kerala government at the 29th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).
Instituted at the 26th IFFK, the Spirit of Cinema Award celebrates filmmakers who use cinema to challenge oppression.
“All We Imagine As Light is a daring and sincere movie from Payal Kapadia that speaks about the lives of three working-class women in Mumbai. The movie is realistic to its core and is definitely a masterpiece,” our review read.
