Director Prasanna Vithanage’s latest Malayalam thriller, Paradise, is all set to make its OTT debut on Amazon Prime Video and manoramaMax soon. The digital streaming platforms announced the news on social media on 25 July.
Interestingly, manoramaMax is comparatively a smaller platform than Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. However, this time, the OTT space grabbed the digital streaming rights for Paradise for a good amount.
Also, the makers in a now-deleted post, announced the premiere date as 26 July. However, in a fresh post, they announced that Paradise would hit the OTT soon.
Paradise received critical acclaim upon its theatrical release. It was screened at various international film festivals and was applauded for its heart-touching content and performances.
The film features actors Darshana Rajendran and Roshan Mathew in the lead roles. The plot revolves around a middle-aged Indian couple Kesav and Amritha who embark on a trip to the crisis-hit Sri Lanka to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary.
But the couple’s trip turns out to be a nightmare after they get robbed. Later, a rift erupts between the couple which highlights the fact that their relationship hit rock bottom. What happens next and how Kesav and Amritha spend their remaining days in the economically devastated country is the crux of Paradise.
The major highlight of the film is the realistic portrayal of the crisis faced by Sri Lanka in 2022. Director Prasanna Vithanage effectively conveys how tourists took stock of the situation by entering the crisis-ridden nation.
He also took the opportunity to criticise the Sri Lankan authorities who weren’t bothered about the downtrodden people in the nation as they were stamped as culprits.
Roshan Mathew and Darshana Rajendran’s onscreen chemistry is another highlight of the flick. Darshana was impressive as Amrita, a woman with a perspective. The actor effortlessly portrayed the helplessness and confusion of Amrita under various circumstances.
Paradise also made references to the Ramayana, which has over 300 versions apart from the Indian version written by Valmiki. In all, the movie was a powerful representation of the socio-economic and political crisis faced by Sri Lanka in 2022.
