Jis Joy's Thalavan gets OTT premiere date

The superhit Malayalam movie Thalavan will be premiered on the SonyLIV OTT platform on 12 September, coinciding with the Onam festival season.

Thalavan will be available in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Marathi, and Bengali versions on the OTT platform.

Earlier, we reported that the movie would be streamed via SonyLIV in September. However, the makers were yet to announce the date.

Meanwhile, the makers announced a sequel to Thalavan during the 65-day celebrations in July. Actor-filmmaker Dileesh Pothan, who played the character of DySP Udhayabanu in the thriller, announced Thalavan 2 at the event. The sequel will also feature Asif Ali and Biju Menon in the lead.

The film was released a day after Mammootty’s Turbo hit the screens. Thalavan became a sleeper hit, with the audience welcoming the investigation thriller directed by Jis Joy with open hearts. The movie reportedly grossed around ₹25 crore at the box office worldwide.

In an interview, director Jis Joy said he took ample time for the post-production, which worked in its favour.

The successful combination of Asif Ali and Jis Joy, who delivered two super hits before—Sunday Holiday (2017) and Vijay Superum Pournamiyum (2019)— also was one of the highlights of the film.

Asif Ali and Biju Menon’s unique combination was the other highlight.

Initially, there were doubts if Jis Joy could pull off a thriller since he is known for his feel-good films. However, the director came out with flying colours.

After watching Thalavan, Kamal Hassan invited the team to his Chennai office and appreciated them.

Arun Narayan and Sijo Sebastian backed the film under the banners of Arun Narayan Productions and London Studios.

The Jis Joy directorial is set in rural Malabar and features Anusree, Miya George, Dileesh Pothan, Kottayam Nazeer, and Sankar Ramakrishnan in prominent roles.

The screenplay was written by Sarath Perumbavoor and Anand Thevarakatt, the music was composed by Deepak Dev, and the cinematography was handled by Sharan Velayudhan.
