‘Narivetta’ release delayed; to release on 23 May

'Narivetta' release delayed

Tovino Thomas’s upcoming film Narivetta, that was set to release on 16 May, is now delayed.

Directed by Anuraj Manohar, the film now has a new release date, 23 May. Sharing the delay on Instagram, the makers wrote: “Date Locked & Loaded!! #Narivetta Releasing On May 23th”

Abin Joseph, a journalist and short story writer who won the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar award, wrote the film. The film features music by Jakes Bejoy, cinematography by Vijay, and editing by Shameer Muhammed.

Apart from Tovino Thomas, Narivetta also stars Suraj Venjaramoodu, Arya Salim, Priyamvadha Krishnan, and Rini Udayakumar in key roles. Narivetta also marks the debut of Tamil actor-director Cheran in Malayalam cinema.

The movie is being produced by Tippu Shah and Shiyas Hassan under the banner of Indian Cinema Company.

Anuraj Manohar debuted as a director with Ishq (2019), headlined by Shane Nigam and Ann Sheethal. He announced his second directorial, Sekhara Varma Rajavu, with Nivin Pauly, who was supposed to bankroll it. However, the film has been postponed for some reason, and went onto floors in August 2024. And now, the filmmaker is coming up with Narivetta with Tovino Thomas.

According to an Cinema Express report, the film appears to be inspired by the infamous Muthanga incident of 2003, which shook the collective conscience of the state and sent ripples across Kerala’s political landscape.

Meanwhile, the actor’s production, Marana Mass is set to be available on OTT platform, after completing its theatrical run.

The tagline of Marana Mass read, “Not a Mass Padam”. It was co-written by director Sivaprasad and Romancham (2023)-fame Siju Sunny. Siju also played a key role in the film.
