Kerala superstar Mohanlal’s much-anticipated live show in Sydney, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed after the actor’s Australian visa was not approved in time for the event.
The programme, ‘Vaikittu Endha Paripadi‘ (What’s on the agenda this evening?), organised by Kayal Events at the Norwest Convention Centre in Sydney on August 8, was set to feature Mohanlal along with several other artistes.
Singer KS Chithra, actor-singer Manoj K Jayan, and others had already arrived in Australia, while Mohanlal was in Singapore awaiting visa clearance.
Efforts to resolve the visa issue were unsuccessful, forcing the organisers to postpone the show.
Kayal Events clarified that Mohanlal’s visa application has not been rejected and remains under consideration. However, the approval did not come in time for Saturday’s event.
In a video message from Singapore, Mohanlal apologised to those who had purchased tickets and said the show would be held at a later date.
He said this was the first time in his 50-year cinema career that he had faced such a situation involving the cancellation or non-approval of a visa.
“I don’t know how it happened. Whether it was due to a technical error or a clerical mistake, I am not getting into the details. I am taking all the blame,” Mohanlal said.
KS Chithra, speaking from Sydney in a video message, said the visas of the other artistes had been received about a month ago, but Mohanlal’s visa had remained pending.
According to her, Mohanlal had been staying in Singapore for the past two days in the hope that the visa would arrive in time.
Kayal Events, in a statement, said the postponement was due to an “unforeseen delay in the visa approval process” for the headline artiste.
The organisers said all other artistes and crew members were already in Sydney, but the event could not go ahead without Mohanlal.
The organisers also said the programme would be rescheduled to a new and feasible date, with further details to be announced later.
