Malayalam actor Mammootty is set to return to films after a short break, with sources confirming he will join Mahesh Narayanan’s new project titled Patriot in September.
The film also is set to mark the collaboration of Malayalam stalwarts Mohanlal and Mammootty.
The news has thrilled fans and colleagues alike. Producer Anto Joseph expressed his gratitude on social media, calling it an answered prayer, while Mammootty’s close aide George shared a heartfelt post thanking well-wishers.
Actress Maala Parvathy described it as “the greatest news,” and director Kannan Thamarakkulam said collective prayers had been heard.

The film, apart from Mammootty, Mohanlal, has Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, Revathi, Darshana Rajendran, Zarin Shihab, and Grace Antony.
Manush Nandan is handling the cinematography. He earlier shot Dunki and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Anto Joseph is producing the film, while CR Salim and Subhash Manuel will co-produce.
Mahesh Narayanan, an editor-turned-filmmaker, is renowned for directing critically acclaimed films such as Take Off (2017), C U Soon (2020), Malik (2021), and Ariyippu (2022).
Meanwhile, Mohanlal’s last film Thudarum recently crossed ₹ 200 crore gross worldwide.
M Renjith of Rejaputhra Visual Media bankrolled Thudarum. Tharun Moorthy and KR Sunil wrote it. Nishad Yusuf edited it, and Vishnu Govind was the sound designer. Jakes Bejoy composed the music.
In October 2025, he is set to shoot for Drishyam 3, the high anticipated film of the thriller franchise.
