Malayalam watchlist: Small films to regale audiences this July

Asif Ali's 'Level Cross' and Dhyan Sreenivasan's 'Partners' are running high on expectations.

Malayalam watchlist for July 2024

The Malayalam industry has witnessed a roaring business in the first half of 2024, with four movies grossing over ₹100 crore worldwide.

This not only boosted the spirits of the film fraternity, exhibitors, and distributors but also came as a shot in the arm for the industry, which was otherwise reeling under losses. Interestingly, every month in 2024, saw superhits.

Meanwhile, no big Malayalam movie is being released in July 2024. However, Asif Ali’s Level Cross is one of the much-anticipated films of the year. The actor’s Adios Amigo will be released on 15 August.

This apart, small films like Machante Malakha, Vishesham, Samadhana Pusthakam, and Partners are slated for release in July. On that note, let’s check the Malayalam watchlist for July 2024:

Partners

Partners, featuring Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead, was supposed to be released on 28 June. However, the makers pushed the release date to 5 July 2024.

Announcing the news on social media, the makers wrote: “We are coming to entertain you from July 5. Mark the Date: July 5. Finally, partners, ‘Only in crime’ is coming to theatres near you on July 5th. Come, watch, and get thrilled.”

Partners, directed by Naveen John, also casts Kalabhavan Shajohn, Aju Varghese, and Satna Titus in crucial roles.

It is touted to be an investigative thriller with a gripping narrative set against the backdrop of a rural bank. While Dhyan Sreenivasan plays an intense role, Kalabhavan Shajohn appears as the leading investigator in the film.

Samadhana Pusthakam

The trailer of Samadhana Pusthakam, released recently, increased curiosity among film enthusiasts for the project.

The movie is helmed by debutant Raveesh Nath and is set in 2001. The trailer promises a pakka comedy entertainer. The story is set against the backdrop of a high school in Kerala.

Samadhana Pusthakam was jointly scripted by director Arun D Jose and Sivan C P. It features Siju Wilson, Mathew Thomas, Leona Lishoy, Veena Nair, James Elia, Meghanadhan, Kalabhavan Haneef, Pramod Veliyanadu, Rajesh Paravoor, and Shylaja Ambu.

Satheesh Kurup is the cinematographer and Chaman Chakko is the editor. The music was composed by 4 Musics.

The Malayalam film was produced by Nissar Mangalasseri under the banner of Sigma Stories.

Samadhana Pusthakam will be released on 19 July.

Vishesham

Director Sooraj Tom’s Vishesham is headlined by Anand Madhusoodanan and Chinnu Chandni. Besides playing the lead, Anand Madhusoodanan also acted as writer, composer, and lyricist for Vishesham.

The teaser gave the impression that the film takes a refreshing departure from conventional hero narratives.

Chinnu Chandni appears as the police officer in the movie. During a promotional interview, she said Vishesham has a different treatment and will appeal to the audience.

The film has cinematography by Sagar Ayyappan and editing by Malavika VN. The other cast includes Baiju Johnson, Althaf Salim, and Johnny Antony.

It will hit the cinema halls on 19 July 2024.

Level Cross

Asif Ali will be seen in a different look in Level Cross.

In January this year, the makers unveiled a motion poster of the movie, featuring three major actors from the film. Asif Ali’s makeover in the poster caught the attention of moviegoers. Given the looks in the poster, he is likely to play a negative role in the flick.

Level Cross was shot extensively in Tunisia. Asif Ali, Amala Paul, and Sharafudheen are the major actors.

Meanwhile, at a promotional event, the actor said he portrayed a unique character in the film, which is set in an imaginary land.

It was directed by debutant Arfaz Ayub, who also penned the script. The dialogues were written by Adam Ayub, the father of Arfaz.

The cinematography was handled by Appu Prabhakar and the music was composed by Vishal Chandrashekhar. Deepu Joseph is the editor.

Ramesh P Pillai produced the film and director Jeethu Joseph is presenting it. Wayfarer Films is distributing it.

Level Cross is all set to hit the theatres on 26 July.

Machante Malakha

Machante Malakha is an upcoming movie directed by Boban Samuel. The promotional material hinted that it would be a light-hearted watch.

Machante Malakha stars Dhyan Sreenivasan, Namitha Pramod, Vineeth Thattil, Shanthi Krishna, Manoj K U, and Dileesh Pothen in main roles.

Soubin Shahir appears as a bus conductor in the film, which was shot in Annamanada, Mulanthuruthy, Mala, and the surrounding areas.

The screenplay was penned by Ajeesh P Thomas and the story by Jexson Antony. The film was produced by Abraham Mathew under the banner of Abaam Movies.

It was initially slated for release on 14 June but was postponed for some reason. It will now hit the screens in July. However, the makers are yet to confirm the release date.
