Mohanlal’s upcoming film, under the direction of Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2: Empuraan, is gearing up for a grand release on 27 March.
Adding to the growing anticipation, the makers announced that the action entertainer is set to release in IMAX, making it the first Malayalam film to release in the format.
Sharing the news, IMAX India wrote on their Instagram: “Power. Politics. Betrayal. The legend of Khureshi-Ab’raam returns, and this time, it’s bigger than ever. L2: Empuraan takes you deeper into the empire of the unseen ruler—where loyalty is tested and dominance is absolute. Witness history as L2: Empuraan becomes the first-ever film from the Malayalam Cinema Industry to release in IMAX. Experience the action, the intrigue, and the spectacle on the grandest scale possible!”
Director Prithviraj Sukumar also wrote on X: “It gives us immense pride to announce that #L2E #Empuraan will be the first ever film from the Malayalam cinema industry to release on IMAX. We hope this is the beginning of a long and illustrious association between IMAX and Malayalam Cinema. Watch the spectacle unfold on IMAX screens across the world in selected markets from 27/03/2025!”
The film is set to release in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.

The actor-turned-director Prithviraj Sukumaran’s directorial was produced by Aashirwad Productions and helmed by Antony Perumbavoor, a close associate of Mohanlal.
Apart from Mohanlal, the film has Manju Warrier, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and others in lead roles.
