Actor-producer Sandra Thomas faced a setback in her bid to contest the Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) elections.

The Ernakulam sub-court dismissed her plea challenging the rejection of her nomination papers for the posts of president, treasurer, and executive committee.

Sandra told the media the verdict was disappointing and unexpected, adding that she would decide on future steps after consulting legal experts.

She had argued that the returning officer who evaluated her nomination acted with bias and that the association’s bylaws did not authorize appointing a returning officer.

The officer had rejected her nomination, citing insufficient films to meet eligibility criteria. Sandra stated she had produced nine films, seven with Friday Films and two independently, but the officer insisted she provide censor certificates for three films produced solely under her own banner.

When she raised objections, the officer suggested she seek legal recourse.

In 2024, the Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) expelled Sandra Thomas from the league alleging that she violated the norms of the association, following her comments against the association in connection with the release of the Justice Hema Committee Report.

She had criticised the association for not taking a stand in light of the Hema Committee report.
