The 2024 Kerala State Film Awards announced, on Monday, 3 November, celebrated the best of Malayalam cinema in a year marked by creative diversity and powerful performances.
A seven-member jury chaired by actor Prakash Raj reviewed 38 films before finalizing the winners.
Leading the honours, Manjummel Boys was adjudged Best Film, reaffirming its critical and commercial success. Its director Chidambaram bagged the Best Director award, adding another milestone to the film’s stellar run.
Veteran actor Mammootty was named Best Actor for his haunting portrayal in Bramayugam, while Shamla Hamsa was declared Best Actress for her performance in Feminichi Fathima, a film that also won the Second Best Film award.
Director Fazil Muhammed, who made waves with Feminichi Fathima, won the Best Debut Director award.
The Best Popular Film title went to the romantic comedy Premalu, which captured hearts across generations.
In the technical and creative categories, Christo Xavier was honoured for Best Background Score in Bramayugam, while Sushin Shyam took home the Best Music Director award.
The award for Best Lyrics went to Vedan for his song “Veerpu Thunnitta Kuppayam”.
Sayanora was recognized as the Best Dubbing Artist (Female) for her work in Mohanlal’s directorial Barroz, and Bhasi Vaikom won the Best Dubbing Artist (Male) award.
The Best Art Direction award went to Ajayan Chalissery for Manjummel Boys, while Sameera Saneesh won Best Costume Design for Rekhachitram.
The Special Jury Award was conferred on Paradise directed by Prasanna Vithanage, acknowledging its artistic depth.
Lijomol Jose won the Best Character Actor (Female) award for Nadanna Sambhavam, while Siddharth Bharathan and Sushin Shyam jointly received the Best Character Actor (Male) award.
The Best Book on Cinema went to “Pennu Paat Tharakal” by C S Meenakshi, adding a literary flourish to the list of honours.
