Footage trailer out now

An intriguing trailer of the upcoming Malayalam film, Footage, was released on Friday, 12 July. The trailer featured Manju Warrier, Vishak Nair, and Gayathri Ashok.

The two-minute-37-second trailer of Footage begins with a song, and the lead actors—Vishak Nair and Gayathri Ashok—are seen in a romantic relationship. And then suddenly, unexpected events happen in their lives.

The Footage trailer ends with an eerie silence as Manju Warrier walks away from a house, hinting that the film would be a thriller.

Recently, the makers launched an interesting poster. Manju Warrier shared it on her social media handles with the caption: “Lost Tapes. Untold Truths. FOOTAGE in theaters this August 2nd!”

Footage marks the directorial debut of editor Saiju Sreedharan, who co-wrote the film with Shabna Mohammed. Saiju also oversaw editing. He is popular for his remarkable works—Kumbalangi Nights (2019), Android Kunjappan Ver 5.25 (2019), and Anjaam Pathiraa (2020).

Footage is Malayalam’s first Found Footage film. Found Footage is a technique where a substantial part or all of the work is presented as if it were a film or video recorded by the characters in the story and later “found” and presented to the audience.

Shinoz handled the cinematography. Bineesh Chandran and Saiju Sreedharan are the producers. Rahul Rajeev and Suraj Menon are the co-producers. Martin Prakkat Films is distributing the film.

Meanwhile, Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap is presenting Footage. In an Instagram video, he said he was happy to present the movie.

“For the last one year, we have constantly been seeing such amazing work coming from Malayalam cinema. They’re reinventing genres, they’re trying new things. And ‘Footage’ is one of the prime examples of something so new that they have tried, and it really worked. I’m so honoured to be associated with this film. We’re going to release the trailer soon,” Anurag Kashyap’s post read.

Footage will hit the screens on 2 August.
