The upcoming Malayalam movie Adios Amigo has generated huge expectations from film buffs. The songs and the trailer, too, received a positive reception from the audience.
Initially planned for release on 2 August, the film was postponed to honour those affected by the Wayanad landslides. It is now all set for a worldwide release on 9 August.
Adios Amigo is helmed by debutant director Nahas Nazar, who has been assisting several directors in the Malayalam film industry for some time. He worked on films like Unda (2019), Kettiyolaanu Ente Malakha (2019), Padavettu (2022), Thallumaala (2022), and Ayal Vaashi (2023).
In a freewheeling chat with South First, Nahas Nazar shares insights about his debut directorial movie Adios Amigo.

Excerpts from the interview:
Q. Your directorial debut will hit the screens in a day (9 August). Tell us about it.
A. Adios Amigo revolves around two individuals who meet unexpectedly and decide to go on a trip. A friendship develops between the duo during this journey. The film follows the interesting events and issues that occur during this period.
Q. Asif Ali and Suraj Venjaramoodu have collaborated for the first time in the film. Was it a conscious decision?
A. Definitely not. Initially, we didn’t think about the combination. When we were looking for an for the character played by Asif Ali in the film, we knew we needed someone who would be comfortable with the team.
We wanted an actor with a different hairstyle and a pot belly. Asif Ali was a perfect fit and he cooperated with us in all aspects during the filmmaking. The scriptwriter and I knew him beforehand, so it was an easy task for us.
In the film, Suraj Venjaramoodu’s character hails from Kattappana village in Idukki. We thought Suraj ettan (brother) could pull it off effortlessly. When we approached him with the script, he liked it. And, here we are.
Q. Do you wish to categorise Adios Amigo under any specific genre?
A. This is a feel-good comedy entertainer. But it also has elements of travel and emotions, offering a new experience to the audience.
Q. Music seems to play an important role in the movie. Please tell us more about it.
A. The film’s music was composed by Gopi Sundar and Jakes Bejoy. Adios Amigo gives 100 percent importance to music, which is evident in the songs and the promotional material.
Indeed, it can be considered a musical film. We made the movie with a strong emphasis on music.
Q. The trailer is quite impressive. Asif Ali’s dialect has caught the fancy of moviegoers. Tell us about the characters.
A. Asif Ali speaks in the Paravur (Ernakulam district) dialect. Revealing more about the characters would be a spoiler.
All I can say for now is that the movie will be a wholesome entertainer. Do watch it in theatres.
