East Coast Vijayan's Chithini release postponed

The makers of the upcoming Malayalam film Chithini have postponed the release date as a mark of respect to those affected by landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad.

They announced the news on their social media handles on Thursday, 1 August. However, the makers haven’t announced the release date. The horror drama was set to hit the big screens on 2 August.

Chithini is the latest Malayalam film to be postponed after Asif Ali’s Adios Amigo and Manju Warrier’s Footage. The release of the two movies was also deferred due to the landslides. The three films were slated for release on 2 August.

Chithini features Vinay Forrt, Bengali actor Moksha, and Amith Chakkalakkal as the main leads. Debutantes Arathi Nair and Enakshi will play the other female leads.

The film features Amith Chakalakkal as a police officer, who stays in a mysterious bungalow. He investigates a string of deaths happening in a forest.

Moksha plays Amith’s wife, who is possessed by a ghost (Chithini).

Vinay Forrt plays a person who seeks the mystery behind Chithini’s death or disappearance. In the trailer, he claims that he can sense negative energy through his modern paranormal equipment.

The makers released two teasers and a trailer, which hinted at an intriguing horror drama.

Director East Coast Vijayan stated that the movie would be a spine-chilling journey with the elements of horror, investigation, entertainment, and family drama.

While Chithini and Moksha’s characters will make for an interesting watch, the makers haven’t revealed who is portraying the former.

Chithini is East Coast Vijayan’s seventh directorial. It has dialogues and screenplay written by the filmmaker himself and KV Anil.

Interestingly, Moksha debuted in the Malayalam industry in 2023 with the fantasy comedy Kallanum Bhagavathiyum, directed by East Coast Vijayan.
