Director Shaji Kailas refutes rumours of teaming up with Mohanlal for a new film

Shaji Kailas and Mohanlal's most recent collaboration was the 2023 pandemic-set thriller 'Alone', which received mixed reviews.

Director Shaji Kailas on Tuesday, 13 May, took to his social media to clarify that he is not working on a new film with actor Mohanlal.

Putting the rumour mill to the rest, he wrote: “Dear fans and well-wishers, I would like to address the rumors circulating regarding an upcoming project starring Mohanlal under my direction. Please note that these speculations are entirely false and baseless. As of now, there is no truth to these claims.”

He further added, “I appreciate the enthusiasm and support from all of you, and rest assured, any official announcements regarding my projects will come directly from me. Let’s continue to stay positive and look forward to what the future holds. Warm regards, Shaji Kailas.”

Shaji Kailas and Mohanlal have previously delivered blockbusters like Aaram Thamburan and Narasimham. Their most recent collaboration was the 2023 pandemic-set thriller Alone, which received mixed reviews.

He is best known for his action films with mainly focusing on political thriller and crime genres such as Thalastaanam (1992), Sthalathe Pradhana Payyans (1993), Ekalavyan (1993), Mafia (1993), Commissioner (1994), The King (1995), Aaraam Thampuran (1997), Narasimham (2000), Valliettan (2000), Kaduva and Kaapa (2022).

Meanwhile, Mohanlal’s last film Thudarum recently crossed ₹ 200 crore gross worldwide.

M Renjith of Rejaputhra Visual Media bankrolled Thudarum. Tharun Moorthy and KR Sunil wrote it. Nishad Yusuf edited it, and Vishnu Govind was the sound designer. Jakes Bejoy composed the music.

Prior to that, he also had a hit with L2: Empuraan. The actor-turned-director Prithviraj Sukumaran’s directorial was produced by Aashirwad Productions and helmed by Antony Perumbavoor, a close associate of Mohanlal. Apart from Mohanlal, the film has Manju Warrier, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and others in lead roles.
