Censor Board tells makers to remove 'Bharat' from the title of Malayalam movie 'Oru Bharatha Sarkar Ulpannam

Oru Bharata Sarkar Ulpannam (A Bharat Government Product) is an upcoming Malayalam movie with a unique theme.

The film deals with vasectomy. The trailer hints that it would be a laugh riot, given that the theme is less discussed in films.

Subhish Sudhi, who became popular with his roles in director Lal Jose’s films, is playing the protagonist for the first time in his career.

Gouri G Kishan, the female lead, plays a young medical professional who deals with the birth control process in a village.

All these aspects have the potential to make Oru Bharata Sarkar Ulpannam watchable.

The film has an ensemble cast, including Shelly, Lal Jose, Vineeth Vasudevan, Aju Varghese, Jaffer Idukki, Darshana Nair, and Gokulan.

Change the title: Censor  Board

Oru Bharata Sarkar Ulpannam is in the headlines now after the Censor Board (CBFC) sought a change in the title.

The CBFC directed the film team to change the title to get a green signal for its theatrical release.

According to the makers, the Censor Board suggested the name change as the title makes a reference to “Bharat”. The regional Censor Board based in Thiruvananthapuram took this decision.

But, as per reports, the makers can appeal to the National Review Committee against the decision.

However, team Oru Bharata Sarkar Ulpannam is not doing so as it is a time-consuming process and the film is slated for release on 8 March.

So, the makers decided to change the title to Oru Sarkar Ulpannam (A government product) since they didn’t want to change the release date.

According to the film producer, they wrapped the promotional activities for the movie since it was supposed to be released on 1 March. However, the release date was postponed due to the FEUOK protest.

The posters of Oru Bharata Sarkar Ulpannam have already been supplied to the theatres. Hence, the word “Bharat” in the posters would be covered with paper since printing new posters would burden the makers.

The film title was registered with The Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce a year ago.

Interestingly, the trailer was censored with the original name! But now, the censor board directed the makers not to screen the trailer in theatres.

The movie received a clean U certificate. The makers registered a protest against the censor board’s decision to change the title.

Oru Sarkar Ulpannam is directed by TV Ranjith and is scripted by Nizam Rawther.

TV Krishnan Thuruthy, Renjith Jagannathan, and KC Reghunathan produced it under the banner of Bhavani Productions.
