Basil Joseph, who is basking in the success of Sookshmadarshini, now has a release date for his next venture— Ponman.
The movie, directed by debutant Jothish Shankar is set to release early next year on 6 February 2025.
Jothish is a known production designer who entered the Malayalam industry with 2011’s Adaminte Makan Abu. Some of his notable works include Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum (2017), Kumbalangi Nights (2019) and Virus (2019).
Ponman is an adaptation of GR Indugopan’s novel “Nalanchu Cheruppakar”. Indugopalan and Minnal Murali co-writer Justin Mathew scripted the film.
The first look of Ponman, released in August, featured Basil Joseph sitting on a kitchen stove platform holding a bag, with a sad look on his face.
The movie also stars Aavesham-fame Sajin Gopu, Lijomol Jose, Deepak Parambol, Anand Manmadhan, Rajesh Sharma, Jaya Kurup, Vyshnavi Kalyani, Lakshmy Sanju, Reju Sivadas, Maju Anchal, Shylaja P Ambu, KV Kadampanadan, Thankam Mohan and Midhun Venugopal.
Sharing the update, the makers released a poster of the film. Sanu John Varughese is the cinematographer, and Nidhin Raj Arol is the editor of Ponman. Justin Varghese is composing the music while the director Jothish himself is the production designer. Ponman is produced by Ajith Vinayaka Films.
Meanwhile, the lead actor Basil Joseph has emerged as a bankable star, with a slew of hits. Apart from Sookshmadarshini, which is running successfully, the actor delivered hits like Nunakuzhi, and, Guruvayoor Amabala Nadayil in 2024.
Basil’s upcoming films include Marana Mass produced by actor Tovino Thomas. He will also be seen in Praavinkoodu Shap.
Praavinkoodu Shap is directed by debutant Sreeraj Sreenivasan and is produced by Anwar Rasheed Entertainments. The movie will also feature Soubin Shahir and Chemban Vinod Jose.
After completing his acting commitments, Basil Joseph will reportedly start working on his Bollywood debut, Shaktimaan, headlined by Ranveer Singh.
