The producer of the Malayalam movie Bandra (2023) has filed a petition in court, on Wednesday, 15 November, demanding a case against seven vloggers who gave negative reviews against the movie.

The petition by Ajith Vinayaka Films is against vloggers Aswanth Kok, Shihab, Unni Vlogs, Shaz Mohammed, Arjun, Shijaz Talks, and Sai Krishna.

Producer files petition

In a petition filed by the producer in Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, it is alleged that these vloggers posted negative reviews within three days of release of the film, which has caused loss to the production company.

In the petition, the production company also demanded that the Thiruvananthapuram city police commissioner be instructed to file a case. The producers alleged that the film is being degraded through fake, bad, and misleading ways on social media.

The petition also stated that these kinds of reviews, published within three days of release, should be considered as looting and not just degrading to a film.

Bandra, which was released on 10 November, received mixed reviews upon its release.

Kerala High Court order

Earlier in October, the Kerala High Court considered the petition of director Mubeen Rauf, who stated that vloggers were uploading negative reviews without even watching movies, which was affecting the business.

Mubeen, director of Aaromalinte Adyathe Pranayam (2023) sought a gag order to ensure that social media influencers and film-reviewing vloggers do not publish any reviews of films for at least seven days after the release.

For the first time, a case was registered in October by Kochi city police against the film review bombing. This was in response to the complaint filed by Ubaini, director of Rahel Makan Kora (2023), where he said deliberate attempts were made to degrade his film on social media.
