While the film is yet to be released, director Anurag Kashyap has already seen the film and showered it with applause.
The Bollywood director recently took to his Instagram to praise Joju and his film. He wrote: “Malayalam Cinema continues to shock and surprise and blow your mind. Saw this powerful thriller/drama film from Joju George. A super confident directorial debut that goes the distance. It rises to the level of some of the best Korean new-wave films. Absolutely unmissable. Releasing Oct 24. Trailer out now.”
Responding to the appreciation, Joju Gorge commented under the post, “Thank you so much, sir. You have been always my inspiration in cinema, your kind words humbled me, thanks a ton ”
The film, which has been produced with a substantial budget, took a year to complete and was shot over 110 days. It will be released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada.
Abhinaya, a well-known hearing and speech-impaired actor stars as the female lead, with Joju George playing the role of Giri. The cast also includes former Bigg Boss stars Sagar, Junais, and singer Abhaya Hiranmayi, along with Prasanth Alex, Sujith Shankar, 60 newcomers, and thousands of junior artistes.
Pani features music by Vishnu Vijay and Sam CS, with cinematography by Venu ISC and Jinto George.
Pani is produced by M Riyaz Adam and Sijo Vadakkan under Joju George’s Appu Pathu Pappu Productions, AD Studios, and Sree Gokulam Movies.
Some of Joju George’s recent notable Malayalam films include Action Hero Biju (2016), Malik (2021), Nayattu (2021), Aanum Pennum (2021) and Thuramukham (2023).
Meanwhile, Anurag Kashyap is all set to debut in Malayalam, as an actor with the film Rifle Club, directed by Aashiq Abu.
In a statement, the makers announced that Anurag Kashyap will play a villain in Rifle Club.
On the other hand, he is also playing the lead role in Shabna Mohammed’s Delulu alongside actor-producer Rima Kallingal.
Anurag Kashyap previously also took to Letterbox to share his views about the Malayalam films Manjummel Boys and Bramayugam.
About the Manjummel Boys, he wrote: “Simply extraordinary piece of confident mainstream filmmaking. So much better than all the big-budget filmmaking in India. Such confidence, such impossible storytelling. I was wondering how does one even sell this idea to a producer.”
Praising the Malayalam industry further, he said, “In Hindi, they can only do remakes of such ideas. Hindi cinema really is so far left behind with three back-to-back brilliant Malayalam films..”
In another review, where he rewatched the film, he added: “Camerawork .. editing, performances, the bloody conviction of the filmmakers.”
Anurag Kashyap also reviewed the Mammotty-starter Bramayugam.
About it, he wrote: “I am just so jealous of Malayalam filmmakers .. the courage, the audacity and the amazing discerning audience of Kerala that empowers the filmmaking. I am so insanely jealous .. and Mammooty .. what has he done .. next on the list is Kaathal…”
