Vedan.

Rapper Vedan faces a new sexual harassment case filed by a research student. The complaint, initially submitted to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s office, was forwarded to Kochi police, leading to an FIR under IPC Section 354 on 21 August.

The student alleged that Vedan made sexual advances and humiliated her at his Kochi flat in 2020.

Police said her statement will be recorded once she returns to Kerala.

Vedan is already absconding in another case, filed last month by a doctor who accused him of repeated sexual assault between 2021 and 2023.

His anticipatory bail plea in that case is pending before the high court which has temporarily stayed his arrest.

The Kerala High Court on 20 August, extended its interim order shielding rapper Vedan from arrest in a rape case registered against him.

A single bench of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas, which had on 19 August, observed that the rapper should not be taken into custody while his bail plea was under consideration, extended the protection until 25 August.

The case stems from an FIR filed under Sections 376 and 376(2)(n) of the Indian Penal Code, based on a complaint by a young doctor.

Doctor’s complaint

The complainant from Kottayam, alleged that Vedan exploited her for two years under the false promise of marriage after they connected on social media in 2019.

She accused him of forcing sexual relations, taking money from her, and later distancing himself while pursuing other women.

In her statement, the woman further said that Vedan had borrowed a total of ₹31,000 from her between 2021 and 2023. This included ₹10,000 allegedly requested in December 2021 to fund the release of a song, an additional ₹5,000 at a later stage, and ₹8,356 spent on train tickets for the rapper. She has submitted digital payment records, including Google Pay transactions, as evidence.

The complainant said Vedan began distancing himself from her around July 2023, stopped taking her calls, and eventually cut off contact entirely. She claimed this abrupt withdrawal pushed her into depression. According to her, Vedan referred to her as “toxic” before ending the relationship.

Financial transaction records were also handed to the police. The prosecution highlighted multiple similar complaints against the rapper, while his lawyer argued the relationship was consensual.

A case has been registered under serious charges carrying up to life imprisonment. Meanwhile, two more complaints against Vedan have been submitted to CM Pinarayi Vijayan.
