Ajayante Randam Moshanam and Kishkindha Kaandam emerge victorious this Onam

Five films have hit the screens in Kerala at the box office for Onam. Of these Tovino Thomas’s Ajayante Randam Moshanam (ARM) and Asif Ali’s Kishkindha Kaandam emerged as the frontrunners this festive season.

The success of these films comes at a time when the Malayalam industry is reeling under the aftereffects of the Justice Hema Committee Report, published in August.

The Jithin Lal film weaves together stories from three different eras, with writer Sujith Nambiar skillfully connecting them. On the other hand, the Asif Ali-starrer unravels the mysteries in a realistic way through an engaging and content-driven plot.

ARM surpassed all other releases, with both the 3D and 2D versions registering massive footfall in theatres.

According to its makers, the movie collected ₹35 crore worldwide within four days of its release. Thanks to the Onam holidays, the family audience across Kerala made beelines near cinema halls to watch the flick.

As per the Sacnilk website, ARM saw an impressive collection of ₹4.45 crore on day 4. The opening day collections for the movie stood at ₹2.55 crore. They increased to ₹2.57 crore on day 2 and ₹3.44 crore on day 3.

The Tovino Thomas-starrer also witnessed a good collection in the Hindi circuit. It raked in around ₹34 lakh from North India and ₹31 lakh and ₹78 lakh from Tamil Nadu and Telugu states respectively.

Further, the Malayalam movie earned over ₹11 crore from overseas. It is all set to become a blockbuster and the biggest film in the career of Tovino Thomas.

Kishkindha Kaandam is the dark horse

Kishkindha Kaandam is the dark horse, with it evoking an overwhelming response from all corners. The whodunit thriller is going strong in several theatres with extra shows and extra screens being added this Onam season.

The movie collected ₹45 lakh on its first day and ₹65 lakh on its second day. The box-office collection is soaring, with the Malayalam movie raking in ₹1.35 crore and ₹1.95 crore on its third and fourth day respectively.

According to Sacnilk, Kishkindha Kaandam collected around ₹10 crore worldwide. It earned around ₹5 crore from India and over ₹4 crore from overseas.

Despite Asif Ali noting that Kishkinda Kaandam isn’t particularly a festive release, the film managed to enthral the audience with its thrilling moments.

Soon after its release, Asif Ali expressed his happiness over the unbelievable response from the audience.

Apart from ARM and Kishkindha Kaandam, Antony Varghese Pepe’s Kondal too released for Onam this year. The film is getting an average response from the audience. The movie collected ₹1.61 crore at the box office, according to Sacnilk.

Likewise, Bad Boyz and Gangs of Sukumarakurup are performing decently well at the box office but with fewer screens.
