Unni Mukundan in Marco

Actor Unni Mukundan, who is riding on the success of Marco, on Tuesday, 14 January, announced his resignation as the Treasurer of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), citing work commitments and mental health concerns.

Unni Mukundan, who was elected to the position in July, said the decision came after much reflection, as balancing his professional commitments, including ongoing production projects, had become overwhelming.

In August, following the release of the Hema Committee report, executive members of AMMA, including former president Mohanlal and general secretary Siddique resigned from the association.

In a statement posted on his Instagram story, Mukundan expressed gratitude for the support he received during his tenure and assured that he would continue to serve until a successor is appointed to ensure a smooth transition.

The actor wished his successor success in carrying forward the responsibilities of the position and thanked AMMA members for their understanding and support.

Prioritising mental health

The statement read, “After much thought and reflection, I have made the difficult decision to step down from my role as the Treasurer (AMMA). I have truly enjoyed my time in this position, and it has been both an exciting and rewarding experience.”

Emphasising prioritising his and his family’s well-being, Unni Mukundan added, “However, in recent months, the increasing demands of my work, particularly with Marco and other production commitments, have significantly impacted my mental health. Balancing these responsibilities, along with the pressures of my professional life, has become overwhelming. I now realize the importance of stepping back to focus on my well-being and that of my family.”

Unni Mukundan added, “While I have always given my best in serving this role, I recognize that I can no longer fulfill my duties effectively given the growing commitments ahead. It is with a heavy heart that I submit my resignation. I will, however, continue to serve until a new member is appointed, ensuring a smooth transition.”
