Legendary Malayalam actor Jagathy Sreekumar is all set to make a comeback to the big screen with director Arun Chandu’s Vala. He was absent from the big screen following his accident in 2012.
On the 73rd birthday of the actor, on Sunday, 5 January, the makers of Vala, took to social media to share the poster of Sreekumar in a wheelchair as Professor Ambili, a character evocative of British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking. The poster has taken the internet by storm.
The post read: “The maestro of comedy is back !! Happy Birthday to the legendary Jagathy Sreekumar. Get ready to witness his iconic return in Vala as Professor Ambili, aka Uncle Lunar. The stage is set for a comeback like no other!”
Director Arun Chandu’s previous venture Gaganachari, a sci-fi mockumentary is set in the 2040s in a dystopian Kerala by which time protests rock the state.
With Vala, the young director aims for an ambitious film set in a zombie-infested world. The first-look poster of Vala, featuring striking visuals of root-like structures emerging from the earth, had already sparked immense curiosity. Now, the unveiling of Jagathy’s character poster has further amplified the buzz.
Adding to the anticipation, an announcement video released earlier, featuring Gokul Suresh and Aju Varghese promises a captivating blend of humour and horror, paving the way for Malayalam’s first major foray into the zombie genre.
Vala boasts an impressive ensemble cast, featuring Gokul Suresh, Aju Varghese, and familiar faces from Gaganachari such as Anarkali Marakkar, KB Ganesh Kumar, John Kaippallil, and Arjun Nandakumar. In a notable first, Gokul Suresh and Madhav Suresh, sons of veteran actor Suresh Gopi, share screen space.
Vala, produced by Underdog Entertainments in collaboration with Letters Entertainments. The script is co-written by Arun Chandu and Tyler Durden, with Surjit S Pai managing cinematography, Shankar Sharma composing music, and CJ Achu overseeing editing.
