Omar Lulu gets interim anticipatory bail in rape case

Malayalam director Omar Lulu has been granted interim anticipatory bail by the Kerala High Court on Thursday, 30 May, in a rape case.

In his plea before the court, the filmmaker argued that his sexual relationship with the complainant was consensual.

The bench, headed by Justice A Nasaruddin, granted the interim anticipatory bail to Omar Lulu and adjourned his plea for a detailed hearing on 6 June.

The High Court also stated that if Omar Lulu gets arrested, he should be released on a surety bond of ₹50,000.

The complainant, a young Malayalam actress, alleged that Omar raped her multiple times at several locations by promising her a role in his film.

The Nedumbassery police recorded the statement of the woman and booked the filmmaker under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code.

However, Omar Lulu refuted the rape allegations filed against him. He admitted that he shared a “close friendship” with the actor and that he visited various places with her.

But he claimed that their friendship ended six months ago and he had not contacted her since then.

The Malayalam director also stated that the timing of the complaint was during the shooting of his new movie Bad Boys.

Further, he alleged that the woman might have filed a rape case due to personal enmity.

He even suspected the involvement of a blackmailing group behind the complaint to extort money.
