The Malayalam film Kaathal-The Core is creating waves in the socio-political spectrum in Kerala.

The Mammootty-starrer is serving as a platform for audiences to understand the issues faced by the LGBTQIA+ community.

Kaathal-The Core is directed by Jeo Baby, who earlier made The Great Indian Kitchen (2021), which portrayed the issues faced by married women in their households.

Undoubtedly, the movie is running successfully because of the veteran actor who played a homosexual man.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, 6 December, Joe Baby shocked everyone by revealing that he was insulted by the management of a college.

Registers protest against Farook College

In a video posted on Instagram, director Jeo Baby said he was insulted by the management and union of Farook College near Feroke in the Kozhikode district.

The director was invited as the chief guest for a programme — “Subtle Politics of Present-Day Malayalam Cinema”, organised by the Film Club of Farook College.

On reaching Kozhikode, he learnt from the event coordinator that the programme was cancelled but was not given any explanation or reason for doing so.

Joe Baby said he was shocked as to why the event was cancelled, even after putting up the posters on social media.

So, the filmmaker wrote a mail to the college principal enquiring why the event was cancelled. But he did not get any reply.

‘Against the moral values’

However, the filmmaker received a “forwarded” letter from the College Union saying, “Some statements of Jeo Baby went against the moral values of the college, and the Union won’t support the programme.”

Upset with the letter, Jeo Baby said he would file a case against the college management. “I had travelled to Kozhikode from Kochi, and it will take a day for me to return home.”

He added, “I would like to know what moral values these educational institutions and college unions propagate. I was insulted by this. It won’t be fair on my part if I don’t register a protest against this incident.”

People from the film fraternity, including Mala Parvathy, Indu VS, and Kani Kusruthi expressed their solidarity with Joe Baby.
