Many co-artists didn’t know about Subi Suresh’s health condition as she wanted to keep it under wraps.

Born in Tripunithura in the Ernakulam district, Subi Suresh was a dancer in her school days.

A product of Kalabhavan, the actor rose to fame with Cinemala, a popular comedy programme telecast on Asianet from the early 1990s till 2013.

She was in Kalabhavan for 19 years and was a master in mimicry and mono-act programmes.

The actor recently started her YouTube channel where she shared her travel experiences, a cookery show, and moments with her family.

Soon after her demise, the admin of her Facebook account posted a message: “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end. See you all again… Thanks.”

A lone fighter

Subi was a lone woman in a gang of men who visited many places for comedy programmes.

Her colleague Saju Kodiyan once recalled an incident saying that Subi was the only woman in their troupe.

She wanted to pee during their trip and requested that the bus be stopped. When the men didn’t hear her request, an angry Subi shouted that the troupe members should realise the fact that they were travelling with a woman and should consider her needs.

Immediately, the men asked the driver to stop the bus so Subi could attend to nature’s call.

Multi-talented

Subi Suresh was good at mimicry, mono act and dancing. Her cinematic dance performance paved her way to Kalabhavan, a training centre for mimicry and mono-acting.

Actors Jayaram, Sainudeen, and Lal are some of the old-timers of Kalabhavan.

At entertainment programmes or award nights, Subi would give a dance performance or a comedy skit. She was known for her counter-dialogue in skits. She was mainly associated with comedy programmes on Asianet.

Interestingly, she had the traits of the late Malayalam actress Kalpana who didn’t get major roles in films.

Subi Suresh acted in about 20 Malayalam movies. She made her debut in Rajasenan’s Kanakasimhasanam in 2006. She also acted in Thaskaralahala, Lucky Jokers, Drama, Elsamma Enna Aankutty, Happy Husbands, Dolls, etc.
