Malayalam actor CV Dev, also known as C Vasudevan, died on Monday, 26 June. He was 83.
He is survived by his wife Janaki and children Sukanya, Sukavya and Sukathmajan.
The funeral was held at West Hill Crematorium on Tuesday morning, 27 June.
The actor was undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for a heart-related ailment.
He acted in more than 100 films and several plays. Initially known as C Vasudevan, he became popular as CV Dev.
CV Dev was born in 1940 in Vadakara Chemmarathur. He was the eldest son of Kanaran and Narayani. He took to acting in 1959 with the play Vilakkinte Velichathil, directed by Sadanandan Kallai.
He did many key roles in plays such as KT Muhammad’s Sthithi, MT Vasudevan Nair’s Gopura Nadayil, and PM Taj’s Agraharam. He also directed many plays, including Paanan Paadatha Pattu.
Dev’s debut film was Yaro Oral (1978) directed by Pavithran. His other notable works include Sadayam (1992), Ee Puzhayum Kadannu (1996), Pattabhishekam (1999), Manassinakkare (2003), and Chandrolsavam (2005).
He also appeared in many films in small roles.
CV Dev worked as a B High-Grade artist in Kozhikode Akashvani. He also received awards such as the Bharath P J Antony Memorial Nadaka Cinema Abhinaya Pratibha Award and the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Guru Pooja Award.
