Malayalam actor and mimicry artist Kalabhavan Muhammed Haneef passes away

A theatre actor, Haneef later joined Kalabhavan, a popular mimicry troupe in Kochi. He was the main artist in the troupe.

Malayalam actor and mimicry artist Kalabhavan Muhammed Haneef passed away at a private hospital in Kochi on Thursday, 9 November.

According to local reports, Haneef was recently admitted to the hospital due to respiratory disease. He breathed his last at around 3.30 pm on Thursday.

The actor was 61.

The cremation will be held in Mattancherry on Friday, 10 November.

Acted in 150 films

Muhammed Haneef debuted in films with Cheppu Kilukkana Changathi (1991). He acted in more than 150 movies in a career spanning over 30 years.

He used to actively participate in the comedy shows organised abroad.

Hailing from Mattancherry in Ernakulam district, Muhammed Haneef was originally a theatre actor. Later, he joined Kalabhavan, a popular mimicry troupe in Kochi. He was the main artist in the troupe.

Though Haneef appeared in many movies, he did not get any path-breaking roles to prove himself as an actor.

However, his role as a groom in Dileep’s Parakkum Thalika (2001) was one of his memorable characters.

The actor played many good roles in films like Kattapanayile Ritwik Roshan (2016), Thuruppugulan (2006), and Drishyam (2013).

Jaladhara Pump Set (2023), Garudan (2023) and 2018 (2023) were his recent releases.

Condolences pour in

After the news of the death of Muhammed Haneef broke out, the Malayalam film fraternity condoled his death.

Actor Dileep, in his Facebook post, shared that he worked in many films with Haneef and termed his death unexpected.

Tini Tom, Guinness Pakru, and Shane Nigam also took to social media to express their condolences to the bereaved family of Haneef.
