Guntur Kaaram is a hit on Gemini TV, shows TRP ratings

Mahesh Babu’s most trolled film, Guntur Kaaram — released for Sankranthi this year, failed to meet the expectations of the audience regardless of the collection figures. But it has been a hit on the small screen. The TRP ratings have surprised everyone.

Guntur Kaaram was recently premiered on the satellite channel Gemini TV and it amassed a TRP of 9.23. Remarkably, it registered a TRP of 8.31 in both rural and urban areas.

New movies have not been received well on television for some time now.

It is a fact that the TRP ratings are not getting as expected due to films arriving early on OTT platforms.

Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya (2023), which was a big hit on Gemini TV, was limited to only 5.14. Nani’s Dasara (2023) and Hi Nanna (2024) couldn’t even cross 5.

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Godfather (2022) crossed 7 and Rajanikanth’s Jailer stopped at half past six.

Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy (2023) went to eight. Dhanush’s Sir (Vaathi in Tamil, 2023) registered just 6, while Vijay’s Leo (2023) did badly with just 3 TRPs.

Surprisingly, all these flicks got better talk in theatres and registered good collections at the global box office than Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram.

But this is an example of Telugu Superstar Mahesh Babu’s stamina on the small screen as well.

While Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020) tops the list with a whopping 29.4, Mahesh’s Sarileru Neekevvaru (2020) is in second position with 23.5 TRP.

A mass entertainer, Guntur Kaaram, was released on Netflix in February. It was trending top five for several weeks though its disastrous theatrical run ended early.

Though director Trivikram Srinivas disappointed the audience in terms of taking, Mahesh Babu’s energy, Sreeleela’s glamour and the peppy number “Kurchi Madathapetti” by Thaman brought enough hype and fame to the film.
