Maamannan to be last film of Udayanidhi Stalin

Udhayanidhi Stalin, after being sworn in as the Tamil Nadu Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, told reporters that his upcoming production venture Maamannan, being directed by Mari Selvaraj, would be his last film.

Earlier, he agreed to act in a forthcoming film he was jointly producing with Kamal Haasan. However, with his fresh foray into politics, he said that he would concentrate on his ministerial responsibilities.

In an interview, Udhayanidhi Stalin stated that he accepted Kamal’s film reluctantly as he was busy fulfilling his responsibilities as the MLA from Chepauk-Triplicane.

The actor-politician revealed that he told Kamal Haasan he would produce the flick rather than act in it. But the Ulaga Nayagan insisted that he be a part of the cast.

As of now, Red Giant Movies is co-producing two big-ticket ventures: Indian 2 and Mani Ratnam-Kamal Haasan’s untitled movie.

Since Udhayanidhi is now part of the Tamil Nadu Cabinet, the industry is waiting to see if the production house slowly withdraws from the distribution sector.

Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan, in a congratulatory tweet, asked Udhayanidhi to take the ministerial work as a responsibility and not as a position.

He also reminded him that the expectations would be high as he comes with the experience of three generations.

Aadhi, Arivazhagan join hands again

Actor Aadhi Pinisetty and director Arivazhagan Venkatachalam are coming together for yet another horror thriller after Eeram in 2009. This one is titled Sabdham.

The duo unveiled the poster of the Telugu-Tamil bilingual film on social media on Wednesday, 14 December.

The poster shows a close-up shot of an ear, with images of bats flying all over. The film’s name is written using a typeface that resembles electrocardiogram signals.

Arivazhagan, who launched his company Aalpha Frames, is jointly producing the film with 7G Films.

Arun Bathmanaban is the cinematographer and Thaman is the music director. More details are yet to be revealed.

‘Update on Vijay 67 after Varisu release’

Lokesh Kanagaraj, who was the chief guest at the trailer release of Vishal’s film Laththi, was the centre of attraction for the media.

He told reporters: “No news of Vijay 67 till Varisu is released, and all I can say is that it is not a part of the Loki universe.”

The director also said he would hold a press conference to reveal more details about Vijay 67.

He will be directing Kaithi 2 with Karthi after Vijay’s film followed by Vikram 2 with Kamal Haasan. “After that, I am doing a full-length film on the character Rolex essayed by Suriya in Vikram.”

He clarified: “Whatever you ask, I will give an answer only after Varisu is released, as we don’t want any attention to be diverted from the Vijay-starrer.”

Meanwhile, Vishal made it clear that he would be known hereafter as only Vishal but not as “Puratchi Thalapathy” Vishal.
