Sangamithra, the pan-Indian movie directed by Sundar C, has reportedly been revived by Lyca Productions. Sundar went to London to meet Lyca’s chairperson A Subaskaran in this regard, revealed a source.

The film was launched in 2016 and the first-look poster was unveiled at the 72nd Cannes Festival (2019). The entire technical team of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali led by National Award winner Sabu Cyril was roped in for the project.

Producer Murali Ramasamy of Thenandal Studios struck a deal with Lyca Productions and handed over the mega-budget historical drama to the latter.

The music is by AR Rahman. Jayam Ravi, Arya and Shruti Haasan are said to be the lead actors.

Sangamithra is about a woman warrior and the story is set in 8 AD. Photos of Shruti getting trained in martial arts in London were put out by the makers.

Then, the producers said: “It is a story about many kingdoms, many equations, many relationships – told in an ambitious, larger than life, visually extravagant manner.”

Sangamithra is aimed at being the crown jewel of Tamil films, while this is a piece of fiction, there are unexplored chapters in India’s ancient history, which will be opened through Sangamithra in the most visually beautiful manner. Sangamithra is a film which will be told in two parts.”

However, the source said that there is a possibility of Shruti Haasan being replaced by Bollywood sensation Disha Patani who is currently acting opposite Suriya in an untitled Tamil film directed by Siva.

Earlier, in January, Sangamithra was in the news after the production house (Thenandal Studios) issued a public notice that it “did not authorise any company to collect money for developing/creating platforms or technologies in the name of the film”.

Meanwhile, Lyca Productions bankrolled Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan-1 and is now producing Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2.

Nayanthara’s Connect in Hindi

Nayanthara-starrer Connect will soon be streamed on Netflix, said a source. The film was a box office disaster and grossed just ₹80 lakh, after a five-day run in Tamil Nadu.

Director Ashwin’s previous work Game Over with Tapsee Pannu was a Tamil-Telugu bilingual. It was dubbed in Hindi and presented by Anurag Kashyap. The movie did better in Hindi than in South Indian languages.

Now, the Hindi version of Connect is gearing up for release on 30 December and it is being publicised as Nayanthara’s first Hindi debut.
