The city of Hyderabad will host an international film festival in the near future — so says IT, Industries and Municipal Minister KT Rama Rao.

He was addressing an event to mark the launch of the book Katha Rachana: A to Z on Story Writing by senior director Dasarath, at Prasads Labs in Hyderabad on Monday, 9 January.

“When Hyderabad is booming ahead in all fields, why should it lag in terms of film festivals? The Telangana government will take all steps needed to host an international film festival which will become a memorable event for film lovers globally,” he said.

Later, he requested the Telugu Film Directors Association and other film bodies to come up with a plan so the government can immediately work on it.

KTR’s announcement came in response to senior director VN Aditya’s request to host an international film festival in the city, on the lines of the Mumbai International Film Festival and Bengaluru International Film Festival.

Despite having a vibrant film industry and film-loving people, Hyderabad lacks a film festival, Aditya pointed out.

KTR’s promise

“Telugu cinema is going places and I’m sure soon Hyderabad will become the film capital of India. It will draw movie-makers from not just India but across the globe,” KTR oozed confidence.

On the government’s part, he assured necessary support for the launch and successful run of an international film festival.

“We will involve all the stakeholders to take this idea forward,” he added.

“I didn’t know that Bengaluru hosts an international film festival. Hyderabad is competing with Bengaluru in all aspects. Then why should we lag behind in this aspect? We should definitely have a bigger and better film festival,” he quipped.

Popular filmmakers from Tollywood like VV Vinayak, Harish Shankar, Nag Ashwin, VN Aditya, Dasarath, and Directors’ Association president Kashi Vishwanath were present at the book launch.

Katha Rachana: A to Z on Story Writing” is written by senior writer and director Dasharath who delivered hit flicks like Santosham and Mr Perfect.

The book focuses on the story and screenplay writing techniques and skills aimed at aspiring writers and directors interested in filmmaking.
