Gokulam Films, the Kerala distributor of 'Leo', issued 208 late-night licences to meet the unusual demand from theatres for special shows.
Tamil superstar Vijay’s Leo witnessed a tremendous opening in Kerala on Thursday, 19 October.
Fans of Vijay in Kerala went into a celebration mode by bursting firecrackers on the premises of cinema halls to celebrate the release of Leo.
Theatres in Kerala also saw hordes of people from Tamil Nadu making beelines to watch the movie as early morning shows (4 am) weren’t allowed in Tamil Nadu.
A few Tamilians, who came to Perinthalmanna in Kerala from Coimbatore, had to travel to Manjeri — located 24 km away from Perinthalmanna — as they couldn’t get tickets for the Vijay-starrer.
The majority of cinema halls in the state were housefull as the advanced bookings started on Sunday, 15 October.
Director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo grossed a whopping ₹140 crore worldwide on the opening day.

Around 3 lakh tickets were sold across the state. The early morning shows in the multiplexes in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram were charted at 5 am and 5.30 am.
In other theatres, the early morning shows started at around 4 am and 4.30 am.
In Kochi city and outskirts, around 15 theatres held marathon screenings of the Vijay-starrer with a total of about 160 shows on day 1.
The ticket sales in the Aries Plex, a multiplex in Thiruvananthapuram, crossed the 40 lakh-mark with a total of 125 shows and occupancy of 21,811 people.
Trade pundits said that Gokulam Films, the Kerala distributor, issued 208 late-night licences in view of the unusual demand from theatres for special shows.
As per early trends, on its second day, the collections of Leo in Kerala have been put at ₹3 crore.
Industry experts also predicted that Leo would collect around ₹50 crore alone from Kerala itself. since there are no releases in Malayalam this week, the Vijay-starrer is all set to rule the Malayalam box office, thereby ensuring good business for the distributors and exhibitors.
Lokesh Kanagaraj’s directorial is also likely to witness a roaring weekend since Mammootty’s Kannur Squad (2023), which was released three weeks ago, is the only competitor at the box office.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Leo has an ensemble cast — Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun, Priya Anand, Mishkin, Gautam Menon, Mansoor Ali Khan, and Mathew Thomas.
The music is by Anirudh Ravichander and the action choreography is by Anbariv.
