online film critics ban

Film Exhibitors’ United Organisation of Kerala (FEOUK) has banned online film critics from reviewing movies in theatres after the first shows.

The decision came after several producers complained that the reviews are affecting the business of their production ventures.

FEOUK president B Vijayakumar told media that YouTube channels will not be allowed to do film reviews inside cinema halls from today, 9 February.

“We are banning the YouTube channels from entering the theatres and doing film reviews after watching the first show. This is affecting the collections of many Malayalam films,” he observed.

“We instructed the managements of theatres falling under FEOUK to make sure that critics don’t enter the cinema halls with microphones to get bytes from the audience after the screening.”

The decision was taken during a meeting held by the Kerala Film Chamber.

It was also decided to allow a 42-day window for the screening of movies on OTT platforms after theatrical release. Nevertheless, films that had already signed deals with OTTs will be exempted from the rule, he pointed out.

While agreeing that the ban on critics won’t control the YouTube Channels from reviewing the films, Vijaykumar informed that the matter will be taken to the notice of the culture minister.

Chintamani Kola Case sequel announced

Director Shajji Kailas has announced a sequel to Chintamanai Kola Case. The sequel is titled LK.

Announcing this on his Instagram account, he captioned the pic: “We are on the move”.

Chinthamani Kola Case (2006) was a superhit movie where Suresh Gopi played the role of Lal Krishna Viradiyar aka LK, a lawyer who commits crimes.

It was written by AK Sajan and the title role was played by actress Bhavana.

In his earlier interviews, Shaji Kailas hinted at doing a sequel for Chintamani Kola Case. However, he clarified that only LK’s character would remain the same.
