AR Rahman announced the launch of a new digital platform, Katraar, coinciding with his birthday on Friday, 7 January.

The music maestro became the third Indian after Daler Mehndi and Kamal Haasan to promote their work using the technology.

Katraar aims at bringing the power of Web 3.0 with digital collectibles (unique digital items that can be shared, created, bought and sold on Instagram) and Metaverse.

In a video released on the occasion, Rahman explained that Katraar means a group of learned people who can change the world.

“The platform helps to bring new talents and emerging technologies to limelight and create direct revenues. It helps bridge the new and the old besides creating opportunities for talented people.”

As part of the project, Rahman is working with HBAR Foundation to bring in NFTs in music, art, and storytelling.

They are also working on an undisclosed project based on virtual beings to find a whole new expression to thoughts which are trapped in an older form, Rahman added.

Rahman will publish some of his exclusive works through Katraar. The platform will also host many international productions.

2022 saw Rahman occupy the top slot in music with Ponniyin Selvan-1. This year, he is busy composing the music for the sequel (PS-2) which is coming up in a month’s time.

Apart from Mani Ratnam’s directorial, Obeli N Krishna’s Pathu Thala starring Simbu, Gautham Karthik and Priya Bhavani Shankar is the next big project for Rahman. It is a Tamil remake of 2017’s Kannada hit film Mufti. Pathu Thala will be released on 30 March 2023.

The last time Rahman teamed up with Krishna was for Sillunu Oru Kathal (2006), a musical hit featuring Suriya, Jyothika and Bhumika.

Nirangal Moondru dubbing works begin

Karthick Naren’s next directorial Nirangal Moondru with Atharvaa, Sarath Kumar, Rahman, and Nikki Galrani completed the dubbing works. The director announced that the trailer would be released soon.

The film deals with three shades of a human being. The title and three actors represent the grey, dark, and white shades.

Nirangal Moondru also marks the acting debut of producer-actor Jaya Prakash’s son Dushyanth. The movie also casts Chinni Jayanth and John Vijay in key roles.

Karthick Naren took Kollywood by storm with Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru which he directed and produced. The film was a sleeper hit and had Rahman in a pivotal role.

This thriller made Karthick the youngest director (at 22 years) in Kollywood to deliver a movie with a 100-day run. The next was Mafia with Arun Vijay which had a decent run.

This followed a film for Navarasa, an anthology starring Arvind Swami, and Maaran with Dhanush.

Though Naragasooran with Aravind Swami, Shriya Saran, and Sundeep Kishan was completed, it is yet to be released.
