The actor's next — 'Bedurulanka 2012' — is a rom-com that captures the flavours of Godavari districts. It's releasing on 25 August.
Actor Kartikeya Gummakonda is coming before audiences on 25 August with a rom-com — Bedurulanka 2012. The film is about the doomsday apocalypse that was supposed to happen a decade ago in a small rural hamlet named Bedurulanka.
Kartikeya plays the character of Shiva Shankar Varaprasad in the film.
“Shiva quits his job in an animation company in a city and heads back to his village. His girlfriend is the daughter of the village head. She knows no outer world other than the small island of Bedurulanka in the Godavari district,” the actor explained the storyline during a media interaction in Hyderabad on Tuesday, 22 August.
While Shiva is a daring and flamboyant youngster who lives life on his terms, the girl is very reserved and hails from a conservative family.
How things work out between the two amidst the speculation that the world is going to end soon is the crux of Bedurulanka 2012.
Directed by Clax, Bedurulanka 2012 boasts an ensemble cast.
Neha Shetty plays the love interest of Kartikeya.
LB Sriram, Ajay Ghosh, Srikanth Iyengar, Goparaju Ramana, Satya, Jabardast Ramprasad, and Anitha Nath will be seen in key roles.
“The film is an out-and-out entertainer with a tinge of Godavari comedy. The way the story has been dealt with made me satisfied. It will be pure fun in the first two hours with meaningful and fun dialogues — more of a situational comedy than punch dialogues),” he elucidated.
Bedurulanka 2012 is a lockdown story when Kartikeya happened to meet Clax through Ajay Bhupathi.
“Ajay and Clax were good friends when they worked under Ram Gopal Varma. Ajay used to frequently tell me how Clax had a different perspective on filmmaking and the way he treats stories. That way, I got closer to Clax and we collaborated for Bedurulanka 2012,” Kartikeya Gummakonda recalled.

The story of Bedurulanka 2012 happened somewhere around 2012 when a lot was being discussed about the apocalypse.
“I was probably studying in college at that time. In a gap of 10 years, everyone witnesses some changes in one’s life. I was very naïve. To be precise, ‘Nibba veshalu ekkuva undevi‘ (I used to be naughty and an immature teenager). I would feel as if I have done something great,” Kartikeya Gummakonda laughed.
The RX 100 actor admitted on several occasions that he was a huge fan of Megastar Chiranjeevi.
When asked about his rapport with Chiranjeevi, Kartikeya revealed that it was the Megastar who made him more responsible towards the work.
“If there is any person in my life who made me feel more responsible, it is certainly Megastar Chiranjeevi garu,” he noted.
He further added, “Other than films, I wouldn’t feel responsible for any work. It would keep my parents bothered. But now, they keep wondering how an irresponsible brat like me is doing films.”
“My mom stands agape with wonder if any fan approaches near me for a selfie. She asks me, ‘Hey, what’s there in you to have a selfie? You don’t even keep your room tidy’,” the actor guffawed.
Times keep changing,

Kartikeya Gummakonda was recognised as an actor with good potential with the Tamil flick Valimai (2022). When asked why he did not act in Tamil later, he replied, “After Valimai, three offers came my way but none was exciting. I am happy with whatever recognition I got from Valimai.”
When questioned why not make Bedurulanka 2012 a Telugu-Tamil bilingual, given the popularity he enjoys in Tamil Nadu, Kartikey asserted, “Well, I didn’t feel the need to go for Telugu-Tamil bilingual. I would opt for a multi-lingual release only if I am confident enough with the story and with the director who could tap the potential of audiences in other languages, too.”
Recalling the memoirs from his hit flick RX 100 (2018), Kartikeya shared that he wasn’t prepared for a massive hit.
“I still keep hearing a lot from audiences about RX 100. Recently, I received a compliment from a person hailing from North India. This gives me a great feeling,” he said.
“I would have made the right decisions had I had good knowledge about films. RX 100 was an unexpected range of success. It was quite tough handling the success. Now, I hope Bedurulanka 2012 will meet the expectations of audiences,” Kartikeya signed off.
