Kannada watchlist for August 2024. (X)
Kannada cinema is gearing up for a handful of releases this August 2024, from Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi to Powder. Interstingly, most of these films are set to release on Independence Day, 15 August.
Sadly, no big Kannada films are releasing in August 2024 as well. Meanwhile, with half of the calendar year over, the industry is eagerly awaiting a major hit.
Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi
Headlined by Golden Star Ganesh and Malavika Nair, Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi will hit the screens on 15 August. This Srinivas Raju directorial is a family drama.
It is also the 41st film for Ganesh. The makers already released three songs, which received a great response from the viewers.
The film also marks Malavika Nair’s debut in Kannada. It boasts eight heroines.
The other cast includes Sharanya Shetty, Srinivasa Murthy, Rangayana Raghu, Sadhu Kokila, Shashikumar, Bhavana, Shruti, Ashok, Shivadwaj, Ramakrishna, Raghuram, Ambuj, Manasi Sudhir, and Giri Shivanna.
This Kannada comedy-drama is finally hitting the screens on 23 August, after being postponed repeatedly. Powder was initially slated for release on 12 July and then on 15 August.
Director Janardhan won acclaim for his cybercrime thriller Gultoo (2018), which introduced Naveen Shankar as a prominent lead in Kannada cinema.
TVF, known for its expertise in web series, is debuting in Kannada cinema with Powder.
According to an official statement from the makers, Powder revolves around a group of ambitious youngsters from a small town who are down on their luck. Their quest for quick wealth is filled with numerous challenges as they encounter enemies and frenemies.
Gowri, directed by Indrajith Lankesh, is also hitting the screens on Independence Day, 15 August 2024. Indrajith Lankesh is the brother of the slain journalist and writer Gauri Lankesh.
The film’s title and the announcement that it is based on true incidents led to the speculation that Gowri might be based on the gruesome killing of Gauri Lankesh.
While the makers have not yet issued a clarification in this regard, the spelling of the title has been changed from Gauri to Gowri.
Gowri introduces Samarjith Lankesh and Sanya Iyer. The poster and the behind-the-scenes clips suggest the film might be an action drama.
