At least 160 Kannada feature films have been released so far in the year 2023.
With three more months to wrap up the calendar year, Sandalwood is all set to hit another double century with as many as 10-12 films scheduled to hit the screens in the first week of October itself.
Here are a few of the major ones releasing in October:
Malashree, the action queen of Sandalwood, is returning with Marakastra (Deadly Weapon). The movie is set to hit the screens on 6 October.
Written and directed by Gurumurthy Sunami, Marakastra also features Harshika Poonacha and Anand Aarya.
It is touted to be a typical action-drama with family sentiments. The makers say that it is going to be a perfect treat for the diehard fans of Malashree, especially those who love her kicking the bad guys on the screen.
Seems like 6 October is going to be crowded with action films for Sandalwood fans. Vinod Prabhakar, son of the late Tiger Prabhakar, is coming up with his latest action-thriller titled Fighter.
Directed by Nuthan Umesh, the flick revolves around the protagonist who fights against societal injustices and for his family.
This one has music composed by Guru Kiran and casts noted Tamil actress Nirosha who is making a comeback in Kannada.
Nirosha acted in several popular Kannada films back in the 1990s, including the blockbuster Lockup Death (1994). She was last seen playing a mother in Challenging star Darshan’s romantic drama Brindavana in 2013.
Rajamarthanda is the last-ever film of the late Chiranjeevi Sarja who passed away in June 2020. It is finally hitting the marquee on 6 October.
Among several other films Chiranjeevi was working on, he had finished the shooting of Rajamarthanda. Only the dubbing process was to be completed, but unfortunately, he passed away.
Eventually, his younger brother Dhruva Sarja gave his voice with the aid of audio technology to match his brother’s voice on screen.
Directed by K Ramnarayan, the film also features Deepti Sati.
Arjun Janta scored the music.
Kannada superstar Dr Shivarajkumar, who enthralled his fans across the globe with an eye-catching cameo in Rajinikanth’s Jailer (2023), is back with his first-ever mega pan-India venture titled Ghost.
Directed by MG Srinivas, Ghost is scheduled for release on 19 October in multiple languages — Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Malayalam.
Shivanna has dubbed his voice for Telugu and Tamil versions too.
KGF (2018 & 2022)-fame Archana Jois will be seen in a different avatar in the movie.
Bollywood veteran Anupam Kher is making his debut in Kannada with the film.

Hemant Rao’s directorial romantic saga Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side B has a new release date. It was initially planned for release on 20 October. However, the makers have now postponed it by a week to 27 October.
While the first part (Side A) did receive mixed responses for its snail-paced screenplay, the movie failed to make a good impact at the box office.
It was the same with its Telugu release as Sapta Sagaralu Dhaati.
Along with Rakshit Shetty and Rukmini Vasanth, who were the epicentre of the drama in Side A, will now be joined by actress Chaitra J Achar in Side B in a pivotal role.
A slight detour on our journey, but the destination remains the same! 😊
Sapta Sagaradaache Ello – Side B will be yours on the 27th of October. We hope you receive the next chapter with just as much love and support 🤗#SSESideBOct27 @hemanthrao11 @rukminitweets… pic.twitter.com/neFE17ZiLF
