Kannada actor Vijay Raghavendra’s wife Spandana (44), who was on a trip to Bangkok, breathed her last due to a heart attack on Sunday, 7 August.
Sources say that the actor’s wife initially complained of chest pain before being rushed to a hospital in Bangkok on Sunday evening. While the doctors did their best to revive Spandana, she was eventually declared dead due to a heart attack.
It is learnt that Bangkok authorities will hand over the body after conducting a post-mortem and that the final rites will be carried out in Bengaluru on Tuesday, 8 August.
The news of the sudden demise of Spandana left both the film industry and the who’s who in Karnataka politics in utter shock.
Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to fly down the mortal remains of Spandana to Bengaluru.

Vijay Raghavendra is the cousin of Dr Shiva Rajkumar, late Dr Puneeth Rajkumar, and Raghavendra Rajkumar. He is also the elder brother of actor Srii Murali.
Spandana was the daughter of former senior police officer-turned-politician BK Shivaram. Shivaram is the brother of Congress leader BK Hariprasad.
After serving in the police department, BK Shivaram authored several books on crime, joined the Congress party, and unsuccessfully contested the Assembly elections from the Malleswaram constituency in 2013.
Spandana’s brother Rakshit Shivaram, too, recently contested the Assembly elections from Belthangady constituency. However, he lost to BJP’s Harish Poonja by a margin of 17,000-plus votes.
Spandana played a cameo in V Ravichandran’s Apoorva (2016).
Vijay and Spandana were all set to celebrate their 16th marriage anniversary on 26 August.
Spandana is survived by her husband and son Shourya.
