Kannada actor Lakshman dies at 74

Lakshman, who acted in more than 300 films. passed away in Bengaluru on 23 January due to a heart attack.

Noted Kannada actor Lakshman, who had over 300 films to his credit, passed away today, 23 January, in Bengaluru due to a heart attack. He is survived by his wife.

The actor complained of discomfort in his chest after which he was taken to a hospital and was taken back home after a check-up. However, he suffered a heart attack soon after returning home.

Lakshman was known for his antagonist roles, especially in films starring legendary Kannada actors Dr Vishnuvardhan, Dr Ambareesh, and Shankarnag. He also shared the screen space with scores of other senior and star actors in Sandalwood.

He started his acting career in theatre. Then, he made his debut as a hero in the feature film Usha Swayamvara (1980).

Later, he went on to shine in several roles as an antagonist and supporting character.

Among the many, films like Olavina Udugore, Sangliana, Suryavamsha, Yajamana, and scores of TV serials in recent years highlight his vibrant acting career.

Born in Bengaluru, Lakshman’s father had served in the Indian Army.

Actor-politician Sumalatha Ambareesh took to social media to express her condolences to the actor’s family. She stated that she along with her late actor-husband Ambareesh shared a special bond with Lakshman.

Lakshman acted alongside Ambareesh in several films, including Anta and Olavina Uduglre.
