Kamal Haasan gifts expensive watch to Shankar after watching visuals of ‘Indian 2’

"Indian 2", the sequel to the immensely popular 1986 film "Indian", has been in the making for quite some time now.

Delighted with how his upcoming film Indian 2 had shaped up, actor-politician Kamal Haasan on Wednesday, 28 June, gifted an expensive Panerai watch to director Shankar Shanmugham to show his appreciation for the efforts the latter had put in for the film.

Taking to social media to share his delight, Kamal Haasan wrote in Tamil, “I watched the most significant scenes of Indian 2 today. My heartfelt wishes to director Shankar!”

“It is also my desire that you must not stop here — the reason being, you have attained the highest level in your art career. Do not keep this as your peak and rise sharply in search of several newer, greater heights,” Kamal said, even as he posted a picture of him tying the watch on Indian 2 director Shankar’s wrist.

Interestingly, Panerai is an immensely popular Italian brand that is known for producing high-quality timepieces.

In fact, the brand, which has been in existence for over a century, is also known for having supplied high-strength diving pieces to the Italian Navy.

Delayed shoot

Indian 2, the sequel to the immensely popular Indian (1996), has been in the making for quite some time now.

Shooting for the film first had to be stopped because of a mishap that took place on the film’s sets. The accident left three people dead and over 10 injured, bringing the filming to a grinding halt.

By the time, the team came to terms with the tragedy, Covid had struck, and the film’s shooting had to be again put on the back burner. Later, disagreements erupted between the director, producers and the actor.

All of these were finally sorted out in August last year, and shooting resumed. It now looks like Indian 2 has finally been completed and is ready for release.
