Kalki 2898-D trailer to release on 10 June

Prabhas-starrer Kalki 2898-AD is one of the year’s most anticipated films. This sci-fi spectacle features a star-studded cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani.

On 5 June, the makers revealed through a poster that the trailer of Kalki 2898-AD will be released on 10 June.

In a recent interview, Prabhas said the Nag Ashwin directorial is “made for an international audience. That’s why it’s the highest-budget film, involving the biggest VFX studios, also featuring the best actors in the country.”

After multiple delays, Kalki 2898-AD (shot primarily in Telugu) will hit the screens on 27 June in multiple languages.

This sci-fi retelling of the Hindu myth of Kalki and the Kali Yuga, marking the end of the current world age, debuted its first teaser at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con under its previous title, Project K, becoming the first Indian film to do so.

He also addressed being referred to as a pan-Indian star. “While it doesn’t affect me, it’s a nice feeling to know that people across the country like me now.”

Prabhas acknowledged that, particularly in the South, fans regard him as their family member.

“At times, they see you as their son, while kids perceive you as their brother. Occasionally, they even regard you as a God. Despite everything, I am cautious not to betray their trust.”

Influenced by Star Wars: Nag Ashwin

Nag Ashwin has hinted multiple times that Star Wars (1977) was a significant influence on Kalki 2898-AD, which is reflected in the trailer.

The enigmatic protagonist Bhairava (portrayed by Prabhas) utilises advanced space technology to combat an empire populated by masked soldiers.

While the Kalki 2898-AD trailer lacks substantial story details, it showcases impressive spectacle and a striking combination of practical and digital effects.

The film marks the third feature film by Nag Ashwin, following his acclaimed works Yevade Subramanyam (2015) and the Savitri biopic—Mahanati (2018).

The Sita Ramam (2022) producer duo, C Aswini Dutt-Swapna Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies, are bankrolling Kalki 2898-AD.

According to Nag Ashwin, filming spanned the last two years, with an extensive pre-production process that reportedly lasted double that time, totalling four years.

With such a substantial investment of time, Kalki 2898-AD appears to be a groundbreaking addition to the film industry.

Its technical team comprises music director Santhosh Narayanan, cinematographer Djordje Stojiljkovic, editor Kotagiri Venkateshwara Rao, production designer Nitin Zihani Choudhary, and costume designers Thota Vijay Bhaskar and Shaleena Nathani.
