More than 40 Kannada films released in theatres so far in just two months in 2023. However, only a handful managed to break even at the box office.
Last week, no less than 12 films were released on a single day. Reason: Post-Covid phenomenon. The trend seems to continue in March as well. Two big-budget movies including a pan-India project are set for release in the coming weeks.
While Kabzaa is releasing in cinema halls on 17 March, Hoysala will hit the screens on 30 March. Other interesting films like 19.20.21, Dooradarshana, Mandala, and Kadalatheera Bhargava will have theatrical releases this month.
Set in the backdrop of the pre-independence era, Kabzaa is a period drama that happens in the 1940s and 80s.
Starring Upendra, Kichcha Sudeep, and Shriya Saran, it will be released in nine languages, including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi.
Upendra who directed Dr Shiva Rajkumar-starrer Om, one of the finest gangster movies in Kannada history, will be seen as a gangster in Kabzaa alongside Kichcha Sudeep.
Recently, the makers released a special number featuring Tanya Hope. The grand event organised at Shidlaghatta was attended by the who’s who of the Kannada film industry.
Kabzaa is director R Chandru’s most ambitious project in his career. It is Upendra’s first multi-lingual project.
Composer Ravi Basrur of KGF fame scored the music and the background. Rumours have it that Shiva Rajkumar will also feature in a special role in the film.
Daali Dhananjaya is returning with yet another big-budget film titled Hoysala. In the film, he plays a rebel cop fighting against the corrupt system in society.
Dhananjay stars alongside Amrutha Iyengar, Naveen Shankar, Avinash, and Mayuri Nataraj.
Directed by Vijay, the film is bankrolled by Karthik Gowda along with Yogi G Raj under their banner KRG Studios.
Dhananjaya collaborated with KRG Studios for the second time after Ratnan Prapancha. Hoysala is releasing on 30 March.

National Award-winning director Mansore is back with yet another realistic venture titled 19.20.21. It is based on a real-life incident that occurred in coastal Karnataka.
Through this movie, the director wants to emphasise the importance of three basic rights guaranteed to an Indian citizen under the Constitution.
19.20.21 will hit the screens on 3 March.

United States-based filmmaker Ajay Sarpeshkar’s one-of-a-kind sci-fi thriller Mandala: The UFO Incident will be released on 10 March.
The film revolves around an abduction by UFO. It stars senior actors Anant Nag, Prakash Belawadi, Sharmiela Mandre, Samyukta Hornad, and Kiran Srinivas.
Dooradarshana is an intriguing storyline directed by Sukesh Shetty. Starring Pruthvi Ambar and Ayana in the lead, it is releasing on 3 March.
Kadalatheera Bharagava is releasing the same day and casts Shruthi Prakash of Kannada Bigg Boss fame and Bharath Gowda.
A few other Kannada projects like Crush, Meri, Kasina Sara, Prajarajya, Onda ki Kaadu, Naaku Mukha, In Car, Beega, and Chowka Baara are also releasing in March.
