Suriya and director TJ Gnanavel, who delivered the blockbuster hit film Jai Bhim last year, are teaming up again for a movie that reportedly highlights a social issue.

Released on Amazon Prime in 2021, Jai Bhim is based on a true incident reported in 1993 which involved Justice K Chandru taking up the case (as a lawyer then).

It won huge laurels for the realistic portrayal of a couple belonging to the marginalised Irular tribe who face police bias and state violence.

Suriya’s excellent performance and Gnanavel’s direction drew applause from one and all.

Suriya essayed the role of lawyer Chandru, who takes up the brief for the wronged man and fights for justice.

Without resorting to action and songs, the riveting movie caught the attention of viewers and critics alike. It won the SIIMA and Filmfare South Awards recently.

On 2 November, Jai Bhim completed one year of its release. Actors Suriya and Lijomol Jose shared their happiness in this regard on social media.

Director Gnanavel revealed in a recent interview that he would direct Suriya again. The film’s shooting will begin in March 2023. It will be produced by 2D Entertainment and is tentatively titled #Suriya42.

The Tamil superstar, who recently won the National award for Soorari Pottru, is currently working with directors Vetrimaaran and Bala. He almost wrapped up the shoot of Siruthai Siva’s film.

Meanwhile, the Kadaisi Vivasayi team — actor Vijay Sethupathi and director Manikandan — are coming together for an exciting project in Tamil.

The film will see Vijay Sethupathi team up with Malayalam superstar Mammootty for the first time.

This is the third time that Manikandan is working with Sethupathi. They earlier did Aandavan Kattalai and Kadaisi Vivasayi (which was produced jointly by Sethupathi and Eros).

Manikandan, who made his directorial debut in 2014 with the National Award-winning film Kaaka Muttai, is known for choosing down-to-earth subjects.

The details of this forthcoming flick are yet to be known.
