Gopichand will next be seen in Bhimaa

Actor Gopichand portrayed an encounter specialist in Golimaar (2010). His Andhrudu (2005) had a love story set against a police backdrop, while Souryam (2008) presented a distinct concept.

In the upcoming movie Bhimaa, the actor takes on a unique character unlike his previous roles.

He says the semi-fantasy element in a police story intrigued him, and believes it will appeal to the audience.

Ahead of the release of Bhimaa, Gopichand told the media in Hyderabad why he bets big on the movie.

“In Bhimaa, the concept of summoning a stronger demon to kill another adds an intriguing twist to the plot. It’s a commercial potboiler, packed with intense moments and compelling storytelling. Love, emotion, and romance will entertain audiences throughout the runtime,” he explained.

The actor is confident that the film will be etched in the audience’s psyche.

“Director A Harsha seamlessly integrated the semi-fantasy elements, thus adding depth to the story. Each action sequence has a wonderful emotion,” says the Varsham actor.

KK Radhamohan produced Bhimaa under the banner of Sri Sathya Sai Arts.

Priya Bhavani Shankar and Malavika Sharma are the leading ladies of the film.

It will have a grand worldwide release for Maha Shivratri on 8 March.

Lockdown story

Gopichand explains that Bhimaa took shape during the COVID-induced lockdowns when he was introduced to director Harsha.

“I felt that story has a pacy narrative when Harsha narrated the script. The story was good, but I felt it was inappropriate to go ahead at that time for various reasons. So, I asked him to come up with a different story with a police backdrop. After taking a gap of eight months, Harsha came up with Bhimaa.”

The actor recalled that he loved the story and Bhimaa’s characterisation. He also liked the semi-fantasy elements and gave a green light to the project.

Asked about his role in Bhimaa, and how different it is from his previous cop roles, the actor said, “Each film presents a distinct cop role. While Golimaar featured a unique cop role, Andhrudu intertwined a love story with a police backdrop. Sourya offered yet another interesting story, and Bhimaa introduces a completely different character.”

He added, “The incorporation of semi-fantasy elements in Bhimaa within a police story was what intrigued me in the first place. I believe audiences will feel the same.”

Comparison with Akhanda

In comparison with his film to Balakrishna’s Akhanda (2021), Gopichand quipped, “Bhimaa stands out as a unique story, despite similarities with Akhanda, which has Aghoras in it, The colour palette and music are different in mine.”

Director Harsha crafted an engaging screenplay with intriguing twists and semi-fantasy elements, he said.

Bhimaa has a distinct narrative. It is even better than Akhanda (laughs). Set in Bhima Parasuramkshetra, the background adds depth to the storyline. After listening to the script, I shared my thoughts on the story, and Harsha, being an experienced director, received it well,” Gopichand signed off.
