Chiranjeevi at the Savitri Classics book launch

Veteran Telugu actor Chiranjeevi has turned emotional while recalling his first meeting with Mahanati late Savitri in the 1970s.

He launched a book titled “Savitri Classics“, penned by Sanjay Kishore, in Hyderabad on Tuesday, 2 April.

Addressing the guests, the Megastar said he was surprised to learn that yesteryear actor Savitri was part of his debut film Punadhirallu (1979).

Recollecting their first interaction with the late Savitri, Chiranjeevi said, “When I was taken to Hotel Panchavati near Rajahmundry to introduce me to Savitri garu, I stood immobile for some time on seeing her. She inquired me about my name and wished me the best.”

The next day, the shooting of Punadhirallu was cancelled due to heavy rains.

Chiranjeevi narrated a few more instances of his interaction with Savitri. “I still remember the moment when I fell while dancing to a song in the movie. However, I picked my rhythm and continued with the flow. Mahanati Savitri, who was observing me, said I would become a great star in future. That very appreciation gave me a lot of strength.”

Later, Chiranjeevi shared the screen space with Savitri again in Prema Tarangalu (1980).

In the following years, he emerged as a Megastar in the Telugu film industry. After that, he did not get an opportunity to act with her again.

“No actor could express emotions with her eyes like Savitri garu. I enjoy watching her movies. I get deeply moved and find it hard to express my feelings towards Savitri garu, who was like a mother to me. Being part of this book launch is an unforgettable moment,” he added.
