Sriya Reddy salaar

When director Prashant Neel narrated the story of Salaar, actor Sriya Reddy turned down the offer.

“Well, at that time, I didn’t want to act in films anymore. The idea of stepping into the world of cinema no longer appealed to me. Yet, Neel continued to persist with me,” said Sriya Reddy.

The actor recalled, “He asked me to give it a listen just once. He said: ‘You don’t need to be the hero. Your character is what matters.’ Though a little sceptical about it, I insisted that my role should be prominent and he assured me my role would be more than I would expect.”

Sriya Reddy played the role of Radha Rama Mannar in the big budget-action thriller Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire featuring pan-Indian star Prabhas in the title role.

Directed by KGF (2022)-fame Prashanth Neel and produced by Hombale Films, the film surpassed the expectations of box office pundits within four days of its release (on 22 December) worldwide.

Basking in the success of the movie, actor Sriya Reddy shared her experience working on a project with the Hyderabad media on Tuesday, 26 December.

Sriya says her character Radha Mannar was not part of the initial script of Salaar.

During the script discussion, Prashanth Neel contemplated including a female antagonist in the story.

“It was never his intention to make the character a typical villainous type. Instead, he envisioned a character that exuded beauty with the touch of villainy. He had been expressing this vision from the beginning,” she elaborated.

While designing the character of Radha Rama, the team sat for discussions to set the perfect look. “My ornaments were made of silver. We also wanted to have a tattoo. But again the look seems completely villainous.”

She added, “It shouldn’t seem that way. We decided to do away with the tattoo. Neel and I used to have a strong discussion before the movie.”

The actor revealed that Neel wanted her for the role after watching her performance in Pogaru (2021).

‘Prabhas is a warm person’

About her experience working with Rebel Star Prabhas, Sriya Reddy remarked, “Prabhas is a warm and amiable individual. He approaches his work with a calm demeanour. And Prithviraj Sukumar doesn’t talk much. He dedicates himself to his work and would leave the sets.”

Sriya compares the first part of Salaar with the movies Game of Thrones, KGF, and Baahubali (2015 and 2017).

“If you observe these films, very few people would understand the first part. The same happened with Salaar. In Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire, we tried to establish what the real story was. If you look at the second part, it will be more interesting but you have to wait for some more time,” she signed off.
