Gaddar Telangana Film Awards: Allu Arjun bags best actor for ‘Pushpa 2’; ‘Razakar’ named best film on history

The controversial film 'Razakar', based on atrocities during Nizam's era, which was criticised for promoting right wing Hindutva ideology has been named as the Feature Film on Environment/ Heritage History.

The Telangana government on Thursday, 29 May, announced the recipients of the inaugural Gaddar Telangana Film Awards. The award ceremony are expected to be held on 14 June.

Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD has been named the first Best Feature Film, along with director bagging the Best Director Award, actor Allu Arjun has bagged the Best Actor Male Award for Pushpa 2: The Rule, and Nivetha Thomas has been named Best Actor Female for 35 Chinna Katha Kadhu. 

Apart from these, the controversial film Razakar, based on atrocities during Nizam’s era, which was criticised for promoting right wing Hindutva ideology has been named as the Feature Film on Environment/ Heritage History.

Earlier this year, Allu Arjun was arrested by Hyderabad police for allegedly causing a stampede at the premiere show of Pushpa 2: The Rule.  On 4 December 2024, Allu Arjun attended a screening at Sandhya Theatre. A stampede-like situation arose as fans rushed towards him, and his security detail tried to whisk him away. Amidst the chaos, a 39-year-old mother, Revathi, was killed while trying to protect her son, who was hospitalised with injuries.

Apart from the first best feature film, the jury also announced films in second and third position, they are Pottel and Lucky Bhaskar. Meanwhie, 35 Chinna Katha Kadhu has been named the Best Children’s Film.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in 2024, introducing the awards, noted that the state government would present awards to film personalities, poets and artists named after the revolutionary late Gaddar.

Gaddar, also a poet and balladeer, born as Gummadi Vittal Rao in a poor Dalit family in the Medak district of Telangana, was a voice of the poor during his lifetime.
