Director Siva Nageswara Rao’s forte is comedy. Though his previous releases — Ninnu Kalisaka (2009) and Over Action (2016) — did not do well at the box office, he bets on his upcoming movie Dochevarevura.

Starring Ajay Ghosh, Bithiri Sathi, Pranava Chandra, and Malavika Satheesan in the lead roles, the comedy entertainer is hitting the screens worldwide on 11 March.

“Well, 70 percent of my films are box office hits, including Money, One By Two, Sisindri, Pattukondi Chuddam, and Mr and Mrs Sailaja Krishnamoorthy. I hope to repeat the success streak with Dochevarevura,” Siva Nageswara Rao told South First.

A rip-off from the title Brochevarevarura (Vivek Athreya’s crime comedy from 2019), Siva Nageswara Rao’s Dochevarevura has umpteen characters who are on a mission to siphon off money or cheat on emotions.

“You will find some vague similarities with Life Is Beautiful, an Italian movie directed by Roberto Benigni. Pranava Chandra and Malavika Satheesan are debuting as lead pair in Dochevarevura,” the director explained.

This comedy thriller has a solid two-hour story, entertaining characters and plenty of rib-tickling moments.

Arli Ganesh is debuting as the cinematographer. Rohith Vardhan, a keyboard player who worked with MM Keeravani, scored the music.

The film’s shoot began last February. It is produced by Boddu Koteswara Rao from IQ Creations. The story is set in Hyderabad and Goa.

‘It’s the right time for theatrical release’

About the conflict point in the movie, Siva Nageswara Rao revealed that one of the characters captures the heroine on a phone while she is bathing.

“The pen drive carrying the video reaches Goa through another character. The villain intends to upload the video to a porn site in Goa. The hero embarks on a journey with the help of another crucial character to save the girl from being maligned,” he revealed the synopsis.

Ajay Ghosh plays a double role in Dochevarevura; one of them is dumb and his love interest is hijacked by someone else.

Now that the festive season is over and summer has set in, this is the time when most small-budget films hit the theatres. And the filmmaker wants to make the most of it.

The OTT releases are safe only when there is a tie-up even before you aim at a theatrical release i.e., when the subject is approved.

Then why didn’t he opt for a digital release since Dochevarevarura is a small-budget project? Well, the director doesn’t wish to elaborate.

“There are many bottlenecks to green light a project for a digital platform. I am thankful to the producer. He liked my interview for a TV channel and gave me this opportunity over a few phone calls,” Siva Nageswara Rao signed off.
